In Russia, the cost of preparing homemade Easter cakes has decreased. Depending on the recipe, it will cost two to nine percent less than last year. And compared to store-bought ones, you can save up to 50 percent. This is evidenced by the calculations of the Parliamentary Gazette based on Rosstat data.
To prepare a classic Easter cake, you need wheat flour, milk, butter, sugar, chicken eggs and yeast. According to Rosstat analytics on average consumer prices (as of March 30), this set of products will cost Russians:
- 500 grams of flour — 28 rubles 21 kopecks,
- 250 milliliters of milk — 24 rubles 54 kopecks,
- 150 grams of butter — 171 rubles 46 kopecks,
- 150 grams of sugar — 10 rubles 49 kopecks,
- four chicken eggs (two for the dough and two for the glaze) — 45 rubles 54 kopecks.
Note that this recipe does not take into account salt, yeast and raisins: the first only needs a pinch, and Rosstat, as a rule, does not record the price dynamics for the second and third. And surely every housewife will have them in her stash, you just have to look carefully.
Thus, one substantial Easter cake weighing more than a kilogram (or a little less) will cost 280 rubles and 24 kopecks. Last year, a similar set of products, according to average prices for April, cost, albeit not much, but more expensive — 286 rubles and 47 kopecks. The main reduction in price was in butter: in April 2025, a kilogram of this product cost an average of 1,226 rubles, while at the end of March 2026 — 1,144 rubles.
Prices for finished products in stores have also changed little. Thus, a classic Easter cake with raisins weighing 115 grams costs an average of 149 rubles, versions of 350-400 grams cost from 300 to 500 rubles, respectively. The most expensive in terms of price-weight ratio are traditionally those with unusual and exotic fillings, for example with cherries, coconut or pistachios. By the way, it turns out that baking Easter cakes yourself is much more profitable than buying ready-made ones: in terms of 500 grams, homemade Easter cakes are almost half the price of store-bought ones.
The calculations of the Parliamentary Newspaper are also confirmed by relevant experts. Thus, according to Rusprodsoyuz, the cost of Easter cake decreased year-on-year by 2.2 percent. And the Association of Omnichannel Retailers (AKOR) in its recent study noted a decrease of nine percent (the slight discrepancy is explained by differences in the recipes on which the calculations were based). According to AKOR, the main reason is the stabilization of prices on the food market.

As Vladimir Kashin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues, emphasized in a conversation with Parliamentary Newspaper, prices for dairy products have actually decreased. However, this is rather a negative factor.
Unfortunately, the reduction in price occurred because in a number of regions the purchase prices of raw milk products have significantly decreased,” the parliamentarian explained. “And this, in turn, happened due to the desire of processors and retail chains to reduce their own costs caused by rising prices for fuels and lubricants, electricity and other production factors.
According to Vladimir Kashin, producers of raw materials are highly dependent on the purchase prices that processors set for them, and in fact cannot influence them. At the same time, their own costs are rising, so in the future this situation may lead to a reduction in the milking herd and the exit of a number of small and medium-sized producers from the market.
