A Crimean citizen got a criminal case after trying to sell $177 thousand
Law enforcement officers in Crimea detained a 45-year-old resident of Simferopol, who had been illegally selling and buying foreign currency without special permission for five years. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.
As the police established, for about five years the man, without special permission, was systematically engaged in buying and selling dollars and euros, discussing the terms of transactions and rates through messengers.
During the operational activities, the police documented the sale of 177 thousand US dollars, after which they detained the defendant in Simferopol with the forceful support of the Berkut riot police. 279,100 US dollars and 5,547,150 rubles were seized from his Volkswagen Passat. The car itself, four mobile phones and a video recorder were also seized.
At the man’s place of residence, investigators seized three more cars – a Mercedes-Benz S 500, a BMW 530 and a BMW X7, registered to his wife. According to preliminary data, foreign cars were purchased using proceeds from illegal banking activities.
A criminal case has been initiated under paragraph “b” of Part 2 of Article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal banking activities). The defendant was given a preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave the place. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier it was reported that in Yalta police detained A 21-year-old resident of Novorossiysk, suspected of working as a courier for telephone scammers. The victim of the criminals was a 17-year-old schoolgirl who, under the threat of a criminal case for “financing terrorism,” transferred all her family savings to the criminals.
Let us remind you that the court sentenced a resident of the Simferopol region, who, being a close friend of the family, stole 5 million rubles and 90 thousand US dollars (about 14 million rubles) from the owners of the house. He used the stolen money to buy cars, gold and construction tools.
