The investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the fact of causing death by negligence as a result of the collapse of a multi-storey building in the city of Sevastopol (Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

It was established that at approximately 23.30 on March 23, a bang occurred in an apartment located on the first floor of a building on Pavel Korchagin Street, followed by destruction of the building’s structures. At the moment, the owner of this apartment, a woman born in 1975, is listed as dead, and her son, born in 2006, is listed as missing. The circumstances of their death will be assessed through criminal law. Several more people from among the residents of the house are in medical institutions, where they are receiving all the necessary assistance.

Currently, a group of experienced investigators and forensic investigators has begun examining the scene of the incident, and a set of examinations is being appointed to establish the exact cause of the tragedy. Other investigative actions are being carried out to reconstruct the events preceding the tragedy. Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations continue to clear the rubble,” noted the press service of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
