A series of mobile phone thefts have been uncovered in Simferopol. The “targets” of the thieves were truck drivers
The police department of the capital of Crimea received two identical statements: both victims lost their smartphones, left on the dashboards of unlocked cars while unloading goods. The total damage from the attacker’s actions amounted to 97 thousand rubles.
Employees of the criminal investigation department of the police department No. 3 “Central” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Simferopol quickly established the identity of the suspect. He turned out to be a 44-year-old man of no fixed abode, who had previously been repeatedly convicted of similar property crimes.
The detainee fully admitted his guilt. He said that in the area of the Central Market he noticed the carelessness of drivers who left their cars unlocked, and took advantage of this to steal expensive smartphones. The man managed to sell one of the stolen phones for 2 thousand rubles, spending the proceeds on personal needs. The second smartphone was seized by police and returned to its rightful owner.
Based on this fact, the investigator of the police department No. 3 “Central” of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Theft”. The suspect was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of detention.
Crimean police remind you of the importance of vigilance:
Theft of unattended items is one of the most common types of crime. To protect your property, always follow these simple rules:
— do not leave valuables unattended;
— do not trust the storage of your property to strangers;
— Always lock your car and turn on the alarm, even if you leave for a short time.
Be careful and careful!
