A Sevastopol resident stole more than 1.3 million rubles from his mother-in-law’s friend. He deceived by inventing “scenarios”

According to investigators, a 29-year-old local resident, wanting to get easy money, decided to take advantage of the trust of his mother-in-law. The first time he approached her, he told her about his intention to become an individual entrepreneur. Under this plausible pretext, he managed to convince her to lend him 300 thousand rubles. A month later, the swindler again took advantage of the woman’s trust. This time, he reported an alleged need to pay salaries to employees of his non-existent business and asked for another 5 thousand US dollars. The third episode of the fraudulent scheme was associated with an invented legend about a traffic accident in which he allegedly got into with his wife. Citing an urgent need for money to cover the damage, the man received another 9 thousand dollars from the gullible woman.

When the time came to repay the debt, the young man began to avoid meetings and make empty promises. Realizing that she had become a victim of deception, the woman immediately contacted the police. The amount of damage amounted to more than 1 million 320 thousand rubles— the details of the case were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.

The investigative department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Gagarinsky district opened a criminal case under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to ten years.
