A week after the explosion of a high-rise building in Sevastopol: what is happening now

A week after the explosion of a high-rise building in Sevastopol: what is happening now

A family of elderly people lives in one of the apartments on the second floor of building No. 20 on Pavel Korchagin Street. They didn’t go anywhere: “It’s hard,” says Vladimir.

The wife is half lying down. Both are disabled. The door to the apartment is intact, but professional builders have now taken care of the windows; by the end of today it should be more comfortable, so just be patient and wait.

Thank you guys, everyone is helping. They do it in the kitchen (window — ed.), and here too it is necessary to change, while the film, where the balcony is, – says Vladimir and hospitably invites you into the room where he and his wife watch TV and have breakfast.

Meanwhile, installer Dmitry is working in the kitchen. Right before my eyes, he deftly uproots the double-glazed window frame. There are also apartments where it is enough to change the fittings and make a little adjustment, but here, he says, this is the case when you have to act radically.

It is necessary to remove it completely, because the frame itself is damaged. What is cracked — dismantling and replacementhe explains.

Today there are ten windows to be built in the apartments, says the builder. And the total number of apartments in which glazing was damaged is 67 out of 100 in this building, the contractor’s representative clarifies.

The work will continue continuously from nine in the morning to nine in the evening, seven days a week… Now the windows will be delivered by lunchtime, the delivery will come, and new and new batches will be delivered every day— said the foreman.

For now, he says, we are talking only about windows — all balcony blocks will go in the second phase.

Many windows in the apartments are simply covered with film, it was installed by the management company (management company — ed.). Therefore, now the first priority is to close the perimeter so that people can keep warm in their apartments, so that the people who stay here do not freeze,” explained the contractor’s representative.

Due to the fact that much more apartments were damaged here than in building No. 14, where there was an explosion and from where the residents of an entire entrance were evacuated, they started there, he added.

The next two houses to be damaged will be No. 14 and No. 16, but how many windows there are that require repair or replacement “have not yet been identified.”

Similar work is going on on the fifth floor and on the first floor in one of the entrances.

Somewhere in the “footprints” of that tragic night, one can clearly see the trajectory along which glass from the windows flew into the rooms, directly onto the furniture, onto the beds. The ones that suffered the most were those facing the courtyard. But even the balconies facing the road in some apartments felt the impact.

House No. 20 has several “boats” that are constantly filled with construction waste. KamAZ regularly updates them.

The machine works directly opposite the end of house No. 14, where the emergency happened. The explosion knocked out not only the double-glazed windows, but also the supporting structures, and there is a gaping hole below. And “The Stranger” is still looking at what is happening from above — in addition to the reproduction of the famous painting by Kramskoy from the Tretyakov Gallery on the third floor, here and there there is still furniture or what is left of it. This part of the building is now surrounded by a metal fence; serious work remains to be done here.

Previously, the governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev reportedthat experts have completed an examination of the five-story building at number 14 on P. Korchagina and have come to the conclusion that the load-bearing structures can be strengthened; the corresponding project will be prepared within two weeks.

Explosion in residential building No. 14 thundered on Pavel Korchagin Street in Sevastopol on Tuesday night. The blast wave also damaged the house opposite — No. 20. Two people died, 12 people ended up in the hospital, among them three children.
