After a conversation with unknown people, an 18-year-old resident of Yalta deprived her family of savings and jewelry
A local resident contacted the duty station of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city of Yalta with a statement that her 18-year-old daughter had become a victim of remote scammers. The total amount of damage caused was 700 thousand rubles.
The deception scheme began with a regular call in the messenger. An unknown person, introducing himself as a delivery service employee, informed the girl about the arrival of the parcel. To receive it, he asked for the code from the SMS message. Suspecting nothing, the Yalta woman dictated the code numbers, thereby giving scammers access to her “State Services” and banking applications.
This was followed by a series of calls from false employees of Rosfinmonitoring and the FSB. The girl was convinced that her personal data had been taken over by criminals who were trying to apply for loans and use her accounts in illegal transactions, and she herself was now suspected of high treason.
Being in a state of extreme stress, the victim complied with all the demands of the cybercriminals. She handed over the jewelry to the pawnshop and transferred the proceeds to dictated accounts. Then, on the instructions of the scammers, she cashed and sent 4 thousand in foreign currency, which the family kept at home, to the indicated accountssaid the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
When the money was transferred, the connection with the false representatives of government agencies was severed, and the correspondence in the messenger was deleted.
Based on this fact, the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Yalta opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”.
Currently, law enforcement agencies are conducting an investigation and identifying all those involved in illegal actions.
Crimean police warn:
Take your time: Before you take any actions, especially those related to money, stop and think.
Take care of your personal data: never give your passport details, bank card numbers, SMS codes or other confidential information to strangers.
Remember! Employees of law enforcement agencies and other government organizations never call via instant messengers, do not intimidate, do not rush, or demand the transfer or transfer of funds.
