And the schemes keep working and working: in Feodosia, two scam couriers stole 600 thousand rubles from pensioners

In Feodosia, police detained a 22-year-old resident of Simferopol and a 27-year-old native of Makhachkala, who stole 600 thousand rubles from two elderly people under the “Your relative was in an accident” scheme. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.

A 48-year-old local resident filed a complaint with the Feodosia police and lost 300 thousand rubles. Unknown people called her and, under the pretext of urgent assistance to an elderly mother who was allegedly injured in an accident, they lured her out of money. The scammers provided detailed false information, including about the victim’s injuries and the participation of a pregnant woman in the accident, after which they demanded to “settle the issue” through couriers. The woman handed over her savings to the arriving young couple.

During operational activities, criminal investigation officers identified and detained the suspects — a 22-year-old resident of Simferopol and a 27-year-old native of Makhachkala. The defendants explained that they found an offer for part-time work on the Internet and acted on the instructions of the curator, but the money received was not transferred to its intended purpose, but was used at their own discretion.

During further investigation, another episode was revealed: the same attackers deceived a 70-year-old pensioner using the same scheme, stealing another 300 thousand rubles.

The defendants were charged under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). The sanction of the article provides for up to six years of imprisonment. The court chose a preventive measure: the man was taken into custody, the woman was placed under house arrest. The investigation continues, all persons involved in organizing the criminal scheme are being identified.
