Another courier, a participant in a fraudulent scheme, was detained in Crimea
A 38-year-old resident of a neighboring region, who decided to make money, agreed to become a courier in a fraudulent scheme and was detained by Crimean police.
Fraudsters called pensioners via instant messengers, posing as employees of banks, law enforcement agencies and other organizations. Under the pretext of “declaring funds” and “transferring to a secure account,” they convinced older people to transfer their savings to a “trusted person.” Four pensioners from Sak, Dzhankoy, Evpatoria and Krasnogvardeisky district suffered at the hands of cybercriminals. In total, they lost about 8.5 million rubles. Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea, together with colleagues from the Saksky Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, quickly detained the suspect. He admitted to the police that he took money from the victims and took them to a designated place, keeping a percentage of the amount for himself. For four episodes of deceiving Crimean pensioners, the courier “earned” about 200 thousand rubles— reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.
Criminal cases have been initiated under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison and is taken into custody.
Crimean police call for vigilance! Remember: there are NO “safe accounts”! This is one of the most common remote fraud schemes. Always double-check information coming from strangers and do not trust your money to strangers. If you receive calls with suspicious offers, end the conversation immediately and report it to the police. Be careful and take care of your savings!
