Another courier of telephone scammers was detained in Crimea
This time, a 79-year-old resident of the Saki district suffered from the actions of telephone scammers working under the “Your relative was in an accident!” scheme, who received a call from an unknown person who introduced herself as her daughter. A trembling female voice on the phone reported a fictitious traffic accident in which he was the culprit. “To reconcile the parties” and resolve the situation, a considerable amount of money was required. Wanting to help a loved one, the pensioner collected 300 thousand rubles and gave it to the courier.
Later it turned out that there was no incident, and the pensioner’s daughter was fine — the call turned out to be a trick of scammers.
He quickly came for the money. He called me on the phone and told me to come out. I put the money in a bag, handed it to him, and he leftthe victim told the police.
Hot on the heels, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia «Saki» identified the messenger and detained him — he turned out to be another 18-year-old student temporarily living in the Crimean capital.
According to the detainee, he found this job through an advertisement in the messenger, after which the “manager” contacted him and explained the conditions. At the direction of the “manager,” he transferred funds to the scammers’ account, leaving himself 5 thousand rubles for the work done.
An investigator of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs «Saki» opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”. A telephone scammer may face up to 6 years in prison and a fine. A preventive measure was chosen for him — a ban on certain actions.
Crimean police urge residents to be vigilant: do not answer suspicious calls and warn elderly relatives about possible fraudulent schemes.
