At the Crimean Oncology Dispensary named after. V. M. Efetov put into operation unique equipment
In the Crimean Republican Oncology Clinical Dispensary named after. V. M. Efetov put into operation a unique specialized computed tomograph for the region. This was announced by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Crimea Alexey Natarov. Equipment worth more than 95 million rubles was purchased using funds from the budget of the Republic of Crimea. Another over 10 million rubles were allocated for the overhaul of the premises for its installation.
Previously, such equipment was not presented in any medical institution in Crimea. The uniqueness of the new tomograph lies in the fact that in addition to the standard diagnostic function, it is equipped with a hardware and software complex for topometric preparation of patients for radiation therapy— said Alexey Natarov.

As the minister explained, modern radiation therapy requires maximum precision: radiation must destroy the tumor, but not harm healthy organs. Using a CT planner, a 3D model of the patient’s body is created, on which radiotherapists mark the boundaries of the tumor and identify “risk zones” — healthy organs and tissues that need to be protected as much as possible from radiation exposure. During the procedure, lasers project marking lines directly onto the patient’s body, which allows the doctor to apply marks that will later guide beams on a linear accelerator (radiation therapy equipment). Specialists calculate the optimal angles and radiation doses to destroy the tumor without damaging surrounding tissue.
In addition, the new device is equipped with a specialized module for trephine biopsies (a method of tissue sampling for subsequent histological examination) of tumors of any location. The real-time imaging system allows the doctor to monitor the movement of the needle. This makes it possible to collect biomaterial with minimal trauma and exceptional accuracy.
Commissioning of this CT planner can significantly improve the quality of specialized care for patients, provide more effective treatment, minimizing the risk of complications,” noted Alexey Natarov.
