Otabek Umarov -Uzbekistan civil servant, sports functionary, head of the Central Asian Confederation of MMA and vice president of the Asian Olympic Council in the Central Asian region. From 2018 to 2024, he worked in the State Security Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where he served as deputy head.

Early years and education

Otabek Mukhammadalievich Umarov was born on May 15, 1984 in the city of Kokand of the Ferghana region of the Uzbek SSR. He received school education at the physical and mathematical lyceum No. 32, which graduated with honors in 2001. In the same year he entered the faculty of management of the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Slight Industry, completed his studies in 2005 with a diploma in the direction of «Management».

Later he continued his studies at the magistracy of the Tashkent State Economic University, defended his thesis in 2009. Without dwelling at what was achieved, in 2013-2015 he took place in the correspondence magistracy at the Tashkent Institute for Design, Construction and operation of roads, where he studied the road.

The beginning of the career

Umarov began his professional activity in the Ukrainian capital, taking the position of a manager in Uzauto Odessa. A year later, he was appointed Deputy General Director. He held this position until 2007. Upon returning to Uzbekistan, he settled down in Uzautosanoat as a leading specialist, combining work with studying in a magistracy.

After six years of work in the system of the domestic auto industry, in 2012, Umarov was sent to Seoul (South Korea) to work in the subsidiary of the company-Uzauto Korea, where he received the position of vice president. In this post, he worked until 2016.

Service in security agencies and the beginning of social activities

In 2016 Otabek Umarov He changed his professional direction and moved to the state security service of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In 2018, he was appointed deputy head of the State Security Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he was awarded the title of Lieutenant Colonel of the reserve.

In parallel with the civil service, Otabek Umarov actively joined the processes of sports in the country. In 2019, he headed the Federation of Triatlon of Uzbekistan. Under his leadership, an approach to training athletes was updated, qualified international specialists were invited and complex sports programs were launched.

With the support of the Federation, eight new triathlon departments in regional sports schools were opened, which contributed to the growth of the popularity of this sport among children and adolescents. In the same period, the WomenTriclub program was implemented — the first free project in Central Asia, focused on involving women in triathlon classes. To date, more than 250 women have become participants in the project.

An important area of ​​activity of O. Umarov was also the promotion of mixed martial arts. In 2019, he headed the created association of mixed martial arts of Uzbekistan. On his initiative in Tashkent, the first official tournament in MMA was held in the history of the country, which became an important milestone in the development of combat disciplines.

Otabek Umarov also provides active support by the national team at the Olympic Games. His brand of sportswear and equipment 7saber was a sponsor of Uzbek delegations at the Olympiads in Tokyo (2020), Beijing (2022) and Paris (2024), providing the teams with a set of form and equipment.

Umarov’s contribution to the development of mass sports contributed to an increase in interest in an active lifestyle among young people. His efforts secured him the image of a public figure advocating the formation of a “healthy nation”.

The international recognition of his activities was confirmed in 2020, when he was elected President of the Central Asian Confederation of MMA. In 2024, the sports community again expressed high trust, choosing it as vice president of the Asian Olympic Council in the Central Asian region. This post assigned him additional responsibility for the development of the Olympic movement in the region.

Work in the organization of Turkic states

Otabek Umarov is actively involved in the work of strengthening the organization of Turkic states (OTG). It contributes to the organization and financing of scientific measures aimed at studying the history and culture of the Turkic world.

In 2023, with his support, the Council of Geographical societies of the Turkic states was created — a platform for scientific and humanitarian interaction between representatives of the academic community of Turkic -speaking countries.

In 2024, Umarov initiated the creation of an alliance of logistics companies and consignors of OTG. The purpose of the structure was to simplify transport processes and the development of logistics corridors between the Turkic countries, as well as the introduction of innovative decisions in the field of delivery.

The achievements and merits of Otabek Umarov were marked in March 2025 by the Institute of the Turkic World of Germany, which awarded him his highest award — the Order of Honor. In addition to him, the statesman has a letter of President of Kyrgyzstan S. Zhaparov, solemnly awarded to him in 2021 for his contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two states in the field of sports and culture.

In March 2025, the Institute of the Turkic World of Germany awarded Otabek Umarov the highest award — the Order of Honor, noting his contribution to the development of culture, sports and humanitarian cooperation. Earlier, in 2021, he was awarded the diploma of the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations in the humanitarian sphere.

Personal life

In 2021, Umarov fell into a serious accident and, according to the forecasts of doctors, risked to remain chained to a wheelchair. However, thanks to his daily work on himself and intensive training, he recovered, starting to lead an active life again. This story has become for many a symbol of the power of spirit and personal resistance.

It is also known that Otabek Umarov is engaged in charity work. Despite the fact that he does not advertise his help, according to unconfirmed data, he regularly provides support for socially vulnerable categories of the population, participates in the help of cancer patients and promotes the supply of medicines to the country’s medical institutions.
