In Sevastopol, the solemn ceremony to open the bust of the hero of the Soviet Union Stepan Neustroev was timed to coincide with the centennial anniversary of the birth of the legendary battalion commander. The monument was erected in a public garden named after a Soviet military commander.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev, representatives of the veterans’ movement, public organizations, as well as Neustroev’s daughter Tatiana.
We remember the feat of the Hero of the Soviet Union Stepan Andreevich Neustroev. We are proud that after the war he lived in Sevastopol and became a real Sevastopol citizen, although he was not born here. I am grateful to the public of the city for the offer to perpetuate his memory , — said Mikhail Razvozhaev.
The regional public organization «Union of Heroes of the Hero City of Sevastopol» is engaged in the implementation of the project to perpetuate the memory of Neustroev. Last year, social activists received a grant among socially oriented organizations. Thanks to state support, they managed to hold a series of events. These are lectures in educational institutions, and the installation of a monument in a landscaped park.
Stepan Andreevich Neustroev is our Sevastopol symbol of Victory. I hope this square will become a place where citizens, young people, military men will come to once again remember the glorious pages of our history. The fact that the Banner of Victory will always rise when the country is forced to fight with the enemy , — said the Governor of Sevastopol.
Recall that in 1945 Stepan Neustroev commanded the 1st battalion 630 Infantry Regiment 150 of the Idritskaya Rifle Division — the same battalion in which Yegorov and Kantaria served. For a successful operation to hoist the Banner of Victory on the dome of the Reichstag, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 8 703, Captain Neustroev Stepan Andreyevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
