Compensatory tree planting continues in Sevastopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Planting works, specialists say, are carried out in Sevastopol on a regular basis. Yulia Gavrilova, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Ecology, spoke about this during a live broadcast. The broadcast took place in the official group of the Government on the VKontakte social network. This year, gardening of the territories of kindergartens was actively carried out, and next year, work is planned in the institutions of the Department of Labor for the Social Protection of the Population and on the streets of the city.

The streets were chosen based on the wishes of residents and municipalities. The streets that were in demand were chosen, and preferably those that had already been reconstructed or repaired, so that it would not turn out that we planted green spaces, but they will be dug up during the repair of the street. Therefore, during the development of the project, it is revealed what networks and communications exist, what work will be carried out , — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head of Sevprirodnadzor.

She added that the Sevastopol forestry also determined the areas where compensatory planting of trees cut down during the construction of the Tavrida highway will take place — these are mainly areas of the Mekenzievskoe forestry. Since the plants are from the Red Book, the planting volume should be twice the number of trees cut down.

If the plants are not listed in the Red Book, then the compensation cost is calculated for them, the money goes to the budget of the city of Sevastopol and next year is spent on landscaping urban areas — parks and squares — says Yulia Gavrilova.

During the broadcast, they also discussed the progress of work on clearing the riverbeds. For six years, measures have been taken to ensure that water flows unimpeded during the flood period.

The length of the rivers of Sevastopol, together with their tributaries, is more than 200 km, the largest ones are Kacha and Belbek. We carry out measures for the protection of water bodies. This includes supervision of compliance with the law, clearing work, and preparations for floods are carried out annually. In order for the passage of the flood to be safe and settlements not to suffer, vegetation, silt deposits, sediments are removed. This year, on behalf of the governor, funds were allocated from the reserve fund, and in addition to the planned work to clear Belbek, funds were allocated to clear the Balaklavka River. This work is expected to continue next year. Also this year, with the participation of volunteers, about 11 km of the Black Sea coast was cleared of municipal solid waste , — notes the director of the department.

Yulia Gavrilova also commented on the situation with dolphins released into the sea by the owner of the dolphinarium. According to her, the Department of Natural Resources has received a lot of emotional appeals.

We worked closely with volunteers from the Serenity Sea Society, the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas, the Karadag station, which studies dolphins, the environmental prosecutor’s office, Rosprirodnadzor, colleagues from the Crimea, and the veterinary department. Our main task was to find out if the animals are alive, because they, born in captivity, were released into the natural environment without adaptation. We did not pursue the goal of necessarily removing them from this natural environment, our task was to trace what was happening to them, to provide emergency assistance, if necessary. During this period, all the bodies of dead animals were examined, there were few of them. None of these animals are among the four dolphins that were released. These dolphins are not among the dead animals. At least within the boundaries of Sevastopol and the adjacent coast, up to Karadag , — emphasizes the head of Sevprirodnadzor.
