Crimea is not facing water shortages — thanks to the cold and snowy winter
Crimean reservoirs were replenished with water in February less than in the previous month, despite the abundance of precipitation. The director of the research and production company “Water Technologies” Anatoly Kopachevsky and the head of the department of chemical technologies for water use at the Institute of Biochemical Technologies, Ecology and Pharmacy, KFU, spoke about this on the radio “Sputnik in Crimea”. Vernadsky, professor Ilya Nikolenko.
At the beginning of March, the total volume of accumulated water in reservoirs is about 165 million cubic meters. The influx was significantly less than in January, only 8 million. If you remember January, there were more than 60 million— said Ilya Nikolenko.
Anatoly Kopachevsky added that in February, 2.7 million cubic meters of water entered the Ayanskoye reservoir, 4.6 million to the Simferopol reservoir, and 3.3 million to the Partizanskoye reservoir. And discharge from the Simferopol reservoir has already begun. For February, according to his information, it amounted to 2.2 million.
In fact, we have already filled it to 83%. And preparations are still underway for future influxes. In this regard, a certain reserve volume of the reservoir is maintained, and the discharge is already carried out approximately equal to the volume that arrives. In general, the volume of reservoirs in February was replenished by 17 million,” he clarified.
Ilya Nikolenko noted that this year the peninsula “is following a year of average water content.”
If last year we were afraid that we were suddenly moving into a water-scarce or water-scarce regime, now nature has changed a little, and we have begun to risesaid the scientist.
Anatoly Kopachevsky noted that in two months (January and February) three reservoirs — Ayanskoye, Simferopolskoye and Partizanskoye — received a volume of water equal to the volume of inflows last year and even more.
A very significant reserve is formed by temperature changes, precipitation occurs in mountainous forest areas, and thawing occurs. The reserve of snow reserves, as far as we understand, has not yet been exhausted, thanks to the temperature and weather that is holding. Therefore, we can expect inflows in the near futurehe explained.
Ilya Nikolenko also noted that Crimea will experience a slight cold snap this week.
This suggests that there will be no sharp temperatures and the snow reserves that exist in the mountains will be preserved. We have some kind of safety margin in this sensehe assured.
