Crimea is preparing to implement a new agricultural course
The Crimean agricultural sector maintains a conservative crop rotation system, however, in conditions of water shortages and climatic instability, the region plans to gradually shift its emphasis towards orchards, vineyards and vegetable growing. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic Denis Kratyuk as part of exhibition «AgroExpoCrimea 2026».
We have a fairly conservative crop rotation system. When we talk about crops, any attempt to move left or right must be very carefully calculated. Because industrial crops, which last year made up most of the sowing, did not behave very correctly this year, there was a droughthe answered the question RIA Novosti Crimea.
In this regard, according to the minister, the region intends to carefully diversify the agricultural model.
We will try to shift towards gardens, vineyards and, of course, vegetables. This is the number one question for us,” Kratyuk emphasized.
The head of the department also outlined territorial development priorities. The foothill zone is considered promising for the introduction of innovative solutions, primarily in irrigation conditions. It is planned to develop vegetable and essential oil crops here.
Northern and western Crimea, adjacent to the sea coast, have their own climatic specifics. The central regions are traditionally considered the “granary” of the republic with a predominance of grain and industrial crops.
Separately, the minister highlighted the Leninsky district in the east of the peninsula. According to him, in recent years, guaranteed precipitation has been recorded there, which opens up new opportunities for the development of orchards and vineyards. In addition, Kratyuk appreciated the local potential of mariculture: the territory is washed by two seas at once — the Azov and the Black.
“AgroExpoCrimea 2026” is a specialized industry exhibition that brings together representatives of government authorities, agribusiness, science and infrastructure companies to discuss key areas of development of the republic’s agro-industrial complex. The agenda is centered on land reclamation, seed production and genetics, digitalization of the industry, agritourism, logistics and investments in agro-industrial infrastructure. The platform serves as a space for developing practical solutions, concluding agreements and forming cooperation between business and the state.
