Crimea Police: Fraudsters use “Flower delivery” to steal data
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Every second person knows a story about how someone fell for cybercriminals. And these are not just stories from the Internet — this is reality.
One of the real cases recorded by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea occurred with a resident of the capital of Crimea. She received a call about an allegedly arranged flower delivery. Under the pretext of transmitting the “order number for the courier,” the attackers tried to convince her to give the digital code from the SMS — in fact, it turned out to be a one-time password for logging into her personal account on the State Services portal. Thanks to her vigilance and awareness of remote fraud methods and timely response, the girl was able to resist the attempted data theft. The video recording the incident shows how the attackers persistently try to gain access to her personal information. However, she gave them the code from the SMS incorrectly, as they were trying to gain access to State Services— the details of one of the stories of fraud were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
Such schemes are aimed at stealing personal data and access to important services, including financial and government services.
Police remind:
-
-
- Never provide personal data, SMS codes, logins and passwords to unauthorized persons.
- Do not click on dubious links, even if they look official.
- If you receive a suspicious delivery message, check the information through the official website or contact center.
- At the slightest suspicion of fraud, interrupt the conversation and contact the police, contact the police or call 102.
-
Remember: cybercriminals use trust and haste as a tool. Be vigilant and take care of your data.
