Crimean Perinatal Center improves its material and technical base and introduces modern techniques

In 2025, within the framework of the national project “Family”, the Perinatal Center of the Republican Clinical Hospital named after. N.A. Semashko was equipped with medical equipment. Using federal funds, 266 units of modern devices were purchased to provide care to pregnant women, women in labor and newborns, as well as patients with gynecological diseases.

First of all, this is equipment for pediatric intensive care and pediatric surgery, as well as for obstetric services. As for pediatric resuscitation, these are, for example, open resuscitation systems, transport incubators, a device for nitric oxide therapy, which is used to correct hemodynamic disorders in children with cardiac pathology. In addition, a resuscitation system for autoreinfusion of blood into the adult intensive care unit and a thromboelastograph, which is used in severe situations with bleeding, were purchased. Equipment has arrived in the operating room, including for premature babies who are being operated on here: operating tables, phototherapy lamps, a specialized expert-class ultrasound machine that allows for a detailed examination of newborns and premature babies, as well as many other important equipment — said the head of the Perinatal Center of the Russian Clinical Hospital named after. N. A. Semashko Denis Kondratyuk.

Upgrading the center with equipment has significantly improved the quality of care provided.

The total number of operations at the center increased from 4,700 in 2024 to 5,560 in 2025. We have significantly expanded the capabilities of neonatal surgery — helping children who require surgery in the first minutes of life. Today, our surgeons begin to provide care to the child virtually at the moment of birth, even before the placenta is separated. This is critically important for saving babies with severe developmental defects. If we talk about neonatal surgery, about 60 operations were performed in 2024, and 188 in 2025. The number of minimally invasive operations is also growing. For example, last year 10 children with gastroschisis were operated on — this is a congenital defect of the anterior abdominal wall, in which part of the internal organs, including the intestines, are located outside. The children were operated on immediately after cesarean section, and all of them were discharged with good results— said Denis Kondratyuk.

Doctors continue to introduce modern methods of providing care to women and children. Last year, the specialists of the Perinatal Center helped more than 3.6 thousand babies to be born, of which more than 500 newborns were children born with low birth weight.
