Crimean woman found guilty of causing death by negligence during childbirth to her child
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The court passed a sentence on a 31-year-old resident of the Leninsky district. A Crimean woman was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence).
The investigation and the court established that in February of this year, a pregnant resident of the village of Lenino decided to organize her birth at home, turning to the help of a companion. The woman, refusing the qualified help of doctors and hospitalization in a medical facility, neglected the testimony of obstetricians, reliably knowing about the dangerous contraindications. As a result of a home delivery with the support of a doula with no medical education and no such experience, a boy was born who died minutes later due to lack of qualified medical care— reported in the Sledkom.
By a court verdict, a resident of the village of Lenino was found guilty of the alleged crime and sentenced to one and a half years of restriction of freedom.
Based on the materials of the inspection of the prosecutor’s office in relation to the doula — also a local resident who does not have a special education and illegally provides medical assistance during delivery, a criminal case was initiated under Art. 235 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal medical activity or pharmaceutical activity).
