Crimean woman lost a million rubles by trusting scammers

Crimean woman lost a million rubles by trusting scammers

It all started with a simple phone call. The stranger told the pensioner that she needed to declare her funds. A second call soon followed, this time from a person who introduced himself as a law enforcement officer. He convinced the woman that her personal data had fallen into the hands of criminals who planned to use it for illegal financial transactions.

Frightened by possible problems with the law and wanting to “protect” her money, the pensioner followed all the instructions of the scammers. She withdrew all funds from the bank card and handed them over to the arriving courier. As a result, the woman lost 1 million 100 thousand rubles.

Thanks to the operational work of the criminal investigation department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Black Sea region, a fraud suspect was identified and detained without delay. He turned out to be a 30-year-old resident of Yalta. During the search, part of his cash and mobile phone were confiscated.

The suspect said that he found a part-time job on the Internet. A certain “curator” sent him to the Black Sea region, indicating the address, where he took the money from the pensioner and transferred it to the specified account.

The investigative department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Black Sea region opened a criminal case under the article “Fraud.” The defendant faces up to 10 years in prison.
