Drug trafficking channel was “closed down” in Crimea
Employees of the Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea stopped a drug trafficking channel organized by a married couple from Yevpatoria.
As part of operational search activities in the evening, on the Tavrida highway near the village of Donskoye, Simferopol district, operatives, in collaboration with employees of the road patrol service of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea, stopped a car driven by a 48-year-old driver, in which his 40-year-old partner was also located.
During the inspection of the vehicle, police officers discovered and seized polymer packages with an unknown white substance that were in a bag belonging to the woman. The examination established that the seized substance was the narcotic drug N-methylephedron, also known under the slang name “salt”, with a total weight of about 115 grams— reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
During the investigative measures, it was established that the woman’s partner suggested that she order drugs through the shadow segment of the Internet with subsequent distribution on the territory of the Crimean peninsula. The accused agreed to this proposal. Subsequently, the “accomplices” made a trip to the city of Rostov-on-Don in order to purchase a shipment of narcotic substances, which they took from a previously prepared cache and transported to Crimea for subsequent illegal trafficking.
Based on this fact, the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Simferopol region opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 30, part 4 of article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Attempt at illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues.” This article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 20 years.
The suspects were taken into custody in the manner prescribed by law. The investigation is ongoing.
