Earthquakes are recorded in the sea near Sevastopol: 27 in three days
The activation of the earthquake source has been recorded in the Black Sea near Sevastopol for the third day, Marina Bondar, deputy director of the Institute of Seismology and Geodynamics of the Crimean Federal University named after V.I. Vernadsky, told RIA Novosti.
From December 12 to the present day, the Crimean network of seismic stations has observed the activation of the source near Sevastopol. Residents of the city felt two earthquakes. Macroseismic data is being collected, in which Sevastopol residents are actively participating and sharing their information about perceptibility— said Bondar.
An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred in the Black Sea 24 kilometers from Sevastopol in the evening on Friday. It had 20 aftershocksMarina Bondar said earlier.
On Sunday night A new earthquake was registered off the Sevastopol coast, the geophysical service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. The earthquake at 03:38 Moscow time was recorded by 22 observation stations. Residents of the hero city in some areas of the city felt it on the upper floors of buildings.
Early morning in Sevastopol eight more weak earthquakes were recorded, Marina Bondar reported earlier.
According to preliminary data, the intensity on the coast was 4-4.5 points. These seismic events are accompanied by a number of aftershocks with magnitudes up to 1.8. The total number of earthquakes in this group, except for the two main ones, today is about 27,” the seismologist clarified.
