Festival “Phenomenon”: the event that turned Alupka into a center of cultural life

In Alupka, on the territory of the Church of the Archangel Michael, the second festival of culture and traditional values “Phenomenon” ended.

More than 80 events took place here in five days. The cultural life of the city has never known such a scale. The festival attracted several thousand guests. These were families from Alupka, Yalta, Simferopol, Sevastopol, as well as tourists from other regions of our country, for whom the festival became an occasion to discover the southern coast of Crimea.

The opening headliner was the Oleg Akkuratov Trio. His virtuoso playing, filled with lightness and depth, set a high note for the entire festival and became the main musical impression for many.

On the big and small stages there were voices and instruments that rarely coexist on the same poster: Honored Artist of Russia Albina Shagimuratova and outstanding pianist Alexander Gindin; pianist Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev; jazz and opera singer Sandra Frackenberg, 7/8 Band, singer with Russian-Cuban roots Marianna Savon, ensembles “Fathers and Sons”, “Sirin” and “Komon”, neofolk group hodíla ízba. Ancient medieval melodies coexisted with jazz, and folk with modern academic music.

The legendary composer, author of music for the cartoons “Plasticine Crow” and “Last Year’s Snow Was Falling” Grigory Gladkov gave a solo concert that created a real sensation. At this performance, everyone sang along and rejoiced: children, parents and even grandparents.

A special feature of “The Apparition” is the organic combination of the secular and the spiritual. Concerts, film screenings and creative meetings here easily gave way to spiritual conversations with clergy, scientists, researchers and teachers. In parallel with the lecture hall, there were workshops, a cinema hall and children’s animation, which only enhanced the feeling of a big family holiday, where everyone found something interesting for themselves.

This year, the festival took a decisive step towards reading lovers: it opened a new book space and expanded the program of literary events.

There was a special gift for thoughtful travelers — a new edition of “Alupka: a guide to the city of the future.” This is not just a map with excursion routes, but a collection of impressions, tastes, sounds and smells of a southern city. The guide has become a symbol of how the festival is gradually reviving the image of the city from its resort past to a meaningful present and even to a wonderful future.

And the organizers also prepared unusual tastes for guests that convey the atmosphere of the festival: coffee with Crimean lavender, specialty cakes, fresh fruit drinks, cheeses, sweets and delicious ice cream. They will remain in memory along with the events of the festival, the ringing of bells, the sound of the sea, the battlements of Ai-Petri and the fountains of Vorontsov Park.

Silence was part of the program. Each new day opened with a divine service, and after the ringing of the bells, the space was filled with freedom: someone went to the sea, someone went on a tour of the temple grounds, someone took part in the events of the program. In this measured flow lay the special generosity of the festival, which became a place where everyone has their own rhythm.

«“Phenomenon” is Alupka’s soul, which makes meaning the basis. It is a consensus of tradition and innovation. Here, family becomes the main value, and culture becomes the common language of generations. And this conversation does not subside with the final chord of the festival. It continues to be heard in new projects that we are already preparing. The second festival has ended, but the development of Alupka is only gaining momentumnoted festival producer Sergei Katyshev.

In the rays of the setting sun, Honored Artist of Russia Mariam Merabova performed at the festival, noting that she was used to large halls and academic stages, but only here, at the foot of the temple, a conversation with the audience and herself could be truly frank:

My speechThis is not a concert, but a confession. I’m ready to talk about the most secret things. I am grateful to the festival for the harmony of music, nature, love and spiritual meanings, for the opportunity to sing for people who came precisely for this.

The festival is over, but the tradition continues. There are still many new cultural events ahead and the third “Appearance” in 2027.
