Five-year-old murder in Alupka solved. Killer convicted… in absentia

The criminal is hiding in Ukraine.

A Ukrainian citizen was convicted in absentia for causing the death of a St. Petersburg resident in 2019 on a beach in Alupka.

On the night of July 23, 2019, a conflict arose between two men who had arrived in Alupka for the summer season to earn money. A drunk 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen struck a 22-year-old worker from St. Petersburg multiple times in the head and torso in temporary living quarters near the beach. The attacker abandoned the victim in a trailer and, upon learning of his serious condition, immediately left the country. Only the next day, the victim was discovered in his room by his colleagues. He was taken to a medical facility, where, despite the assistance provided, he died from his injuries a few days later.– the Investigative Committee reported.

Investigators and forensic experts from the Main Investigation Department, together with their colleagues from the police, immediately organized work to record and remove traces of the crime and collect evidence.

During the investigation of crimes committed in previous years, it was established that the suspect is still in the territory of the near abroad. He has been placed on the international wanted listthe Investigative Committee clarified.

Based on the evidence collected by the preliminary investigation body, the man was found guilty by the court of intentionally causing serious bodily harm, which resulted in the death of the victim through negligence, and was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime penal colony.
