Forest patrols have been stepped up in Sevastopol during the fire season
In connection with the beginning of the fire season, inspectors of the Sevastopol forestry have strengthened control over forests. The number of raids has increased significantly: if previously about 100 events were held monthly, then since April their number has exceeded 150. The raids involve both employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, mounted police and Cossacks. Patrolling covers the Sevastopol, Mekenzievskoye and Ternovskoye forest districts.
Thus, police cavalrymen, together with the forestry department, have already carried out a preventive raid in the Mekenzievsky district forestry district. Such patrols will take place from April to October at least four times a month. Their main goal is to reduce the risk of fires and promptly respond to possible threats.
Let us remind you that during the fire danger period it is strictly prohibited:
— make fires in young coniferous forests, in areas affected by fires, damaged forest, logging sites, in uncleaned cutting areas, as well as under tree crowns;
— throw burning matches and cigarette butts, leave glass, oiled or flammable materials;
— light a fire under the treetops.
It is allowed to light an open fire only in open areas subject to strict adherence to fire safety rules:
— prepare the area: clear the space around the fireplace or barbecue from dry grass and leaves (diameter — at least 0.5 meters);
— have water and a fire extinguisher with you;
— after use, pour plenty of water onto the fire until combustion and smoldering stop completely;
— do not leave the fire unattended.
Joint raids by mounted police and forestry inspectors have become an important part of preventive work, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
One such raid lasts about four hours—that’s how long a service horse can serve without a break. During this time, the patrol manages to examine large areas where forestry vehicles cannot pass. Mounted policemen climb mountains, walk along river beds and even cross bodies of water on horseback, which allows them to quickly identify fires and violations.
