Future specialists of Sevastopol take part in the “Professionals” championship

The regional stage of the All-Russian championship movement in professional skills “Professionals” is taking place in Sevastopol. 190 people take part in competitions in 26 competencies. Three competition platforms were launched at the Sevastopol College of Service and Trade: “Restaurant Service”, “Confectionery” and “Bread Baking”. Future food and hospitality professionals compete here.

Six students work at the Restaurant Service site. Each participant performs modules: forming a fruit plate, serving guests in a cafe by reservation, serving in a restaurant and working at the bar. The jury consists of independent experts from restaurant service companies. The jury strictly monitors compliance by competitors with sanitary standards, personal hygiene and safety regulations, — Lilia Kamenetskaya, senior master of the Sevastopol College of Service and Trade, chief expert in the “Restaurant Service” competency, said.

Six participants also work at the Bread Baking site. The guys bake rye-wheat bread and three types of pastries. The baker’s responsibilities include kneading the dough according to the recipe, monitoring the fermentation and baking processes, as well as designing the finished products. The jury evaluates the organization of the workplace, neatness, compliance with safety regulations, knowledge of the properties of ingredients, recipes and manufacturing technologies for bakery products.

Five participants compete at the “Confectionery” site. They make «Opera» cake and «Baku» cake. The industrial training masters explained: the difficulty of making a cake lies in the correct creation of the cream; the peculiarity of the pie is in the filling, which must keep its shape. The jury also pays attention to the appearance of the participants, the cleanliness of the workplace, productivity and adherence to cooking technology.

The Professionals Championship is a test and opportunity for professional growth for college students. Theoretical knowledge and practical skills form the basis of the profession, and competitions help improve the level of skill. Representatives of enterprises are present at the sites and evaluate the preparation and quality of the participants’ work. The guys have a great opportunity to prove themselves and find their future job,” noted the director of the Sevastopol College of Service and Trade, Ilona Smolyakova.
