Genomic registration will become mandatory for military personnel
At a plenary session on February 26, the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings a law introducing mandatory genomic registration of military personnel. Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrei Kartapolov recalled that the document was adopted in the first reading on February 10, and 9 amendments were received for the second reading.
This law provides for mandatory state genomic registration for military personnel, volunteers, employees of the National Guard (with special police ranks), employees of internal affairs bodies, as well as certain categories of federal civil servants and employees of the Armed Forces and the National Guard. The collected genomic data will be stored until the subjects reach 100 years of age.
Genomic registration is the process of collecting biological material (DNA sample) from an individual and entering the relevant information into a specialized database. The goal is to identify a person’s identity.
