Go to jail… for a bike. Case in Simferopol

In Simferopol, police officers returned a stolen bicycle to a young Simferopol resident.
The day before, a 35-year-old local resident turned to police department No. 3 «Central» of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol for police help. The woman explained that an unidentified person had stolen a bicycle belonging to her son, worth 11,000 rubles. What was the general surprise that the child was offended by … a 60-year-old respectable man.
Police officers, as a result of examining the scene, working out possible places for the sale of stolen property, as well as viewing CCTV cameras, identified the suspect. In the shortest possible time, the attacker was arrested. It turned out to be a 60-year-old resident of Simferopol, who did not deny his guilt and gave confessions. He said that, being near one of the local shops, he saw a bicycle not fastened with an anti-theft system. Taking advantage of the moment and the absence of the owner of this vehicle, the attacker committed the theft— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.
As a result of a search at the place of residence of the suspect, the stolen property was confiscated and returned to its rightful owner.
The investigator of OP No. 3 «Central» of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft committed with the infliction of significant damage to a citizen). The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to five years.
