He did a good deed … In Sevastopol, a man gave the phone to “call” and lost it

A 43-year-old local resident who suffered from contact fraud contacted the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leninsky District. The victim told law enforcement officers that an unfamiliar man approached him in the city center and asked him to give him a mobile phone, allegedly to make an urgent call.

After the owner of the gadget complied with his request and handed over a smartphone worth thousand rubles, the stranger stole the device and disappeared in an unknown direction . The employees of the internal affairs bodies on this fact initiated a criminal case under part 1 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud” and took measures to identify the attacker. Thanks to the painstaking work of the police, on suspicion of this crime, a -year-old citizen, who had previously been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility, was detained. The detainee confessed and explained that he disposed of the stolen property at his own discretion. According to the sanction of part 1 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the attacker faces a sentence of imprisonment for up to two years , the details of the incident were announced in the press service Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.

In order to avoid such crimes , the police of Sevastopol urges to observe precautionary measures. Do not give your mobile phone to strangers, no matter how you are asked to do so.

It is also not recommended to trust strangers who may visit your place of residence in order to sell goods. Especially if they offer antiques, jewelry and other expensive, according to them, things for a very low price. Be critical of the offers of strangers offering to buy medicines from them that “help with all diseases.” Moreover, do not let the above citizens into the apartment.

If they come to you from communal or social services, then before letting strangers in, demand to present an appropriate certificate, ask a number of questions about the organization that he represents (its address, information about leaders, etc.). Given that scammers can use false documents and provide false information, older people are advised to have the telephone numbers of these services in a conspicuous place. If a visitor arouses your suspicion, you can call these organizations and find out if this employee was sent to you and what is the purpose of his visit.

On the streets and in other public places, in no case should you enter into conversations with strangers who call themselves «healers», «psychics», «clairvoyants», claim about the «damage» induced on you, imposing their services. In order not to be subject to psychological influence on their part, in such a situation, exclude even very short communication with such persons.

If you have suffered from fraud, then you must immediately contact the nearest territorial unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or report it by phone 30.
