CrimeaPRESS reports:
Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov examined the progress of the construction of a memorial square on the site of the Potato Town prisoner of war camp in Simferopol. To date, work is being carried out ahead of schedule, the readiness of the facility is approximately 85-90 percent. The park is scheduled to open on May 9th.
Vladimir Konstantinov noted that the construction is being carried out at the personal expense of deputies of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, members of the Board of Trustees of the Memorial Complex “Krasny Concentration Camp”, entrepreneurs, caring Crimeans.
Memorial Square is located in an industrial area where the facades of buildings have not always been given due attention, many of them require renovation. The owners are ready to carry out the improvement at their own expense. For one of them, the creation of a memorial square on the site of the camp is of particular importance — his relatives were prisoners of the «Potato Town»— said the head of the Crimean parliament.
