Important! Hotels and other accommodation facilities are required to use the Cyrillic alphabet in their names
On March 1, 2026, the provisions of Federal Law No. 168-FZ of June 24, 2025 came into force, which amends the Law of the Russian Federation No. 2300-I “On the Protection of Consumer Rights”. According to the new standards, all information intended for public information to consumers, including signs and names, must be in Russian as the state language of the Russian Federation.
In this regard, owners of accommodation facilities need to rebrand their names, transferring them from Latin to Cyrillic. This applies not only to signs, but also to information posted on service aggregator websites and ad placement services.
Changes in the name must be synchronized with data on the accommodation facility presented in the Unified Register of Classified Accommodation Facilities. According to Article 5.1 No. 132-FZ “On the Fundamentals of Tourism Activities”, information about the services of accommodation facilities on third-party resources must fully comply with the information specified in the register.
Owners of accommodation facilities can independently make changes to the information about the name of the accommodation facility in the register. Detailed instructions are available at the link: https://fsa.gov.ru/documents/24050/
Hotels can keep names in a foreign language without translation into Cyrillic only in the following cases:
- Registered trademarks or service marks. If the foreign name is an officially registered brand in accordance with Art. 1477 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.
- Brand names. If the name is registered in the prescribed manner in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRLE).
- Other cases provided for by law. Translation requirements do not apply to cases established by federal laws, international treaties or technical regulations.
In all other situations, owners of accommodation facilities need to rebrand by translating names from Latin to Cyrillic on signs, aggregator sites and in the Unified Register of Classified Accommodation Facilities.
