Important: refugees and internally displaced persons have the right to free legal assistance

Federal Law of March 23, 2026 N 64-FZ “On Amendments to Article 20 of the Federal Law “On Free Legal Aid in the Russian Federation.”

According to the adopted law, state legal bureaus and lawyers who are participants in the state system of free legal assistance provide legal advice and assistance in drawing up legal documents in order to recognize such persons as forced migrants, refugees, when granting temporary asylum, admission to Russian citizenship, as well as in cases where it is necessary to establish facts of legal significance and restore lost documents necessary to resolve relevant issues.

The federal law comes into force on the day of its official publication.
