In Crimea, police officers uncovered a serial fraud scheme. The swindler deceived pensioners

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Police officers detained a 40-year-old resident of the city of Bataysk, Rostov Region, who over the past year, under the guise of a public utility worker, deceived elderly residents of Yalta and Kerch under a well-established fraudulent scheme.

The man walked around the apartments in which pensioners live and, under a far-fetched pretext, offered to change the equipment in the electrical distribution panel or the meter. The false electrician asked for relatively small amounts of money for his «work», but, having received payment, he did not fulfill the promise. In some cases, in order to gain confidence, he bought cheap low-quality parts and created the appearance of work. So, in the summer of 2022 in Yalta, an attacker managed to “persuade” five pensioners aged 60 to 85 to repair electrical equipment. Each of them gave the employee from eight to 13 thousand rubles. In Kerch, three elderly townspeople fell for the services of a fraudulent electrician, giving him a total of about 20 thousand rubles— announced the details of the case in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.

Police officers, having received a number of similar allegations of fraud committed against senior citizens, immediately began to search for the attacker. The well-coordinated work of the criminal investigation departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Yalta and Kerch, a number of operational measures carried out made it possible to reach the suspect and establish his whereabouts. The guest performer from Bataysk has already managed to leave the peninsula. He was detained by Kerch operatives in Krasnodar.

At present, the involvement of the detainee in eight episodes of fraud committed on the territory of two Crimean cities has been established. The total amount of damage caused to the victims amounted to about 70 thousand rubles. The suspect is also being checked for criminal activity in other regions of Crimea.

The investigating authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Yalta and the city of Kerch initiated criminal cases under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). According to the sanction of the article, the maximum penalty is 5 years in prison.

The detainee was arrested and is in custody.

Police officers urge citizens to be vigilant and not trust strangers, no matter who they are!

Do not, under any pretext, make transactions with bank accounts at the request of third parties, do not transfer cash or confidential information into their hands. Check the accuracy of any information received from strangers, do not rush to follow their instructions. Do not forget that in order to achieve their goals, scammers are able to introduce themselves as anyone and name the most plausible pretexts.
