In Crimea, underage couriers of scammers deceived the swindlers who hired them. How it was
Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea, together with colleagues from the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Sudak, identified suspects in committing fraud, the victim of which was a 72-year-old local resident.
In mid-December of this year, a woman contacted the police with a statement about the theft of funds in the amount of 1.4 million rubles from her. According to the police, the city resident was deceived by the attackers using the “relative in trouble” scheme. The day before, an unknown person called her and, introducing himself as an investigator, reported about a road accident allegedly committed by her daughter. Under the pretext of “settling the issue,” the interlocutor convinced the pensioner to transfer a large sum of money through his messenger. The woman gave the money and only after talking with relatives did she realize that she had become a victim of a crime— the details of the case were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
As a result of operational search activities, operatives identified three suspects. They turned out to be local teenagers, 15, 16 and 17 years old, studying at one of the Sudak colleges.
It turned out that the friends combined their studies with “work” for swindlers, playing the role of couriers in fraudulent schemes. Acting on the instructions of the curator, they took the prepared bag of cash from the pensioner. However, they decided not to send the loot to the “employer”, using it at their own discretion. For two weeks, they bought food, gadgets and household appliances with the stolen money, spending the entire stolen amount.
The operatives seized property purchased by the teenagers in the amount of about one million rubles to subsequently pay off the damage to the victim.
Currently, all materials collected by the police have been transferred to the investigative authorities for making a procedural decision.
