In Kerch, poachers were convicted for illegal fishing and shrimp

In Kerch, the court delivered a verdict in a criminal case against two local residents. Based on the evidence presented by the prosecutor’s office, they were found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources).
It was established that convicts, in violation of the rules of fishing, using prohibited fishing gear, in spawning grounds and on the migration routes of shrimp and goby, in the waters of the Kerch Strait of the Sea of Azov, illegally caught 5.5 thousand copies of the Black Sea grass shrimp, as well as over 450 copies various fishes (pilengas, smelt, goby).
As a result of the unlawful actions of the defendants, damage to the amount of more than 300 thousand rubles was caused to aquatic biological resourcesthe prosecutor’s office said.
The Kerch city court, taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, sentenced the defendants to 2 years in prison each, the sentences were suspended on probation for the same period. The verdict did not enter into force.
