In Saki, investigators detained a suspect in car theft
The duty station of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs «Saki» received a statement from a 38-year-old local resident who reported an attempt to steal his car. According to the man, an unlocked car with a key in the ignition and without a battery was parked near a house in one of the private sectors of the city.
Police determined that a passerby decided to take advantage of the situation. However, when he tried to roll the vehicle away from the parking spot, he was noticed by the owner’s wife.
The attacker escaped, but thanks to the prompt actions of criminal investigation officers, he was detained. A 24-year-old resident of the Saki district admitted his guilt and said that, while intoxicated, he was walking around the city and, noticing a car with a key in the ignition on one of the streets, decided to drive it home. However, he failed to start the engine and then he attempted to push the car from its place, — The details of the incident were announced by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
The investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia «Saki» opened a criminal case against the suspect on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Wrongful seizure of a car or other vehicle without the purpose of theft.” The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison; the defendant was given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
