In Sevastopol, a bank manager stole more than 24 million rubles from 22 depositors and an employer
The investigator of the investigative unit of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol completed the preliminary investigation of the criminal case under Articles 158, 187 and 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to investigators, from 2016 to 2022, a 33-year-old local resident, being the leading client manager of one of the commercial banks, secretly stole from hundreds of thousands to several million rubles from depositors’ accounts.
Using her official position and access to banking databases, the specialist illegally accessed clients’ personal accounts, drew up fake orders for money transfers, and secretly transferred other people’s client funds to accounts under her control. To prevent depositors from detecting the theft of money, the attacker turned off SMS notifications about transactions on their accounts in advance.
The manager cashed out funds stolen from bank accounts at ATMs and spent them on purchases, paying off loans and other personal needs.
The bank management became aware of the thefts after a request from one of the clients who wanted to receive part of their cash savings.— the details of the case were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
Police investigators found that 22 depositors and the commercial bank itself suffered from illegal activities, totaling 111 episodes of theft, illegal payments and access to computer information, which in total suffered material damage totaling more than 24 million rubles.
Currently, the materials of the criminal case with the indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office have been sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
