CrimeaPRESS reports:
At least 10 residents of Sevastopol and Crimea suffered from the illegal activities of the remote scammer, but investigators have reason to believe that their number may be greater.
The police found that a 30-year-old resident of Yevpatoria, who had been repeatedly convicted of property crimes, created an account on a popular social network with the name “Diana Signa” to steal money by fraudulent means. In thematic communities, he found housing seekers and offered them rentals at an attractive price. To mislead potential victims, he looked for suitable photographs of living space on the Internet and passed them off as his own. The fraudster convinced the clients who believed them to immediately make an advance payment to a bank account controlled by him, supposedly to book an apartment, and after receiving the money he stopped communicating. He spent the funds stolen by deception on personal needs and purchases.— reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
As a result of operational search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Russian Department of Internal Affairs for the Nakhimovsky district identified the suspect and detained him in the city of Yevpatoria. The police seized material evidence, including a mobile phone and a bank card registered in the name of the attacker’s mother, which he used in the criminal scheme.
Currently, investigators from the Investigation Department of the Department of Internal Affairs have established his involvement in at least 10 similar episodes of illegal activity. The total amount of material damage caused was more than 70 thousand rubles.
Criminal cases have been initiated against the detainee under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”. The maximum sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to six years. The defendant was given a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
