In Sevastopol, the activity of one of the leaders of the local cell of a banned organization was suppressed

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, based on the results of special measures carried out by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, initiated a criminal case against a 31-year-old resident of Sevastopol, suspected of participating in the activities of a religious organization, in respect of which the court decided a decision that has entered into legal force on the liquidation or prohibition of activities in connection with the implementation of extremist activities (part 2 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The investigative department for the Nakhimovsky district of the city of Sevastopol established that since 2019 the resident has been actively involved in the activities of the Sevastopol cell of the banned religious organization Jehovah’s Witnesses, in respect of which the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation in 2017 decided to liquidate in connection with the implementation of extremist activities. The man was engaged in illegal organization of meetings, speeches with the study of religious materials, using the Internet, he propagated extremist ideas.
The illegal activities of one of the leaders of the Sevastopol cell of the banned organization were identified and suppressed in the course of operational activities by the FSB of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as a result of which the suspect was detained. Searches were carried out at the place of assembly of adherents and the place of residence of the detainee, during which prohibited literature and other materials confirming criminal activity were found and seized. In cooperation with colleagues from the FSB, urgent operational and investigative measures are further carried out— reported in the Sledkom.
As part of the investigation, the possible involvement of other persons in illegal extremist activities will be established. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
