In Sevastopol, the court will consider a case of theft of citizens’ funds under the pretext of participation in shared-equity housing construction

The prosecutor’s office of the city of Sevastopol approved an indictment in a criminal case against a 41-year-old resident of the city of Sochi.

He is charged under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale). A criminal case was initiated based on materials from the prosecutor’s investigation.

According to investigators, the man, together with two of his acquaintances, committed the theft of funds from citizens wishing to purchase housing. To create the appearance of legality of their actions, they unauthorizedly began the construction of a four-story apartment building with an attic at the address: st. 2nd Ravelinnaya, 24, and posted advertisements on the Internet for the sale of apartments. On behalf of the accused as an individual or the chairman of the housing-construction cooperative «Cozy City», as well as through LLC «Cozy House», agreements for participation in shared construction, share accumulation or loans were concluded with buyers.

The misled victims believed that they would become the owners of apartments in a building under construction. In reality, the accomplices did not intend to fulfill their obligations. The land plot at the specified address is intended for individual housing construction. The construction of an apartment building on it was obviously illegal. The buyers did not receive ownership of the apartment.

Thus, between November 2014 and December 2018, seven victims suffered damage totaling almost 18 million rubles.

The investigation was carried out by the investigative department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

The criminal case with the indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office was sent to the Gagarinsky District Court of the city of Sevastopol for consideration on the merits.

The property of the accused has been seized. Criminal cases against accomplices are separated into separate proceedings.
