In Simferopol, a man could not resist the temptation and stole other people's money from an ATM. What will happen to him
CrimeaPRESS reports:
And you just had to be patient and wait 40 seconds.
In Simferopol, criminal investigation officers detained a 36-year-old local resident who had committed the theft of money in the amount of 24,000 rubles forgotten at an ATM.
The day before, a 55-year-old resident of the Crimean capital turned to the Simferopol police. The applicant explained that she had forgotten the funds due to her own negligence when she wanted to top up her bank card. The woman put 25 thousand rubles into the bill acceptor, but having made a mistake in the operation, she returned 1 thousand rubles. Without waiting for the full return of the remaining funds, the victim left the ATM.
The suspected man, during a conversation with the police, admitted his guilt and wrote a confession. The detainee explained that, having approached the ATM to withdraw cash from his bank card, he noticed the money lying in the cash dispenser, which he took for himself and spent on his own needs.— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.
According to part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Theft”) a criminal case was initiated. An attacker (and even the day before yesterday — an honest citizen) faces up to five years in prison. In the meantime, the Simferopol court has chosen a measure of restraint for him in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the country.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Simferopol reminds:
You should not take money if you go to an ATM and realize that someone left it in the cash dispenser. This is a criminal offense under the article «Theft». If you find money in an ATM, be sure to look around and call the person who has just moved away from the device, inform that he forgot his money; if there is no one nearby, you didn’t see who exactly left the ATM, then you need to take a picture of the forgotten money (or better, record a video) at the ATM and call an employee of the credit institution (if the situation occurred at the bank branch during business hours); if everything happens in the evening / at night, then just do not go to the ATM until he takes the money back. The fact is that the ATM takes back unclaimed money or cards if no one has taken them within 40 seconds. After that, you can go to the ATM and make the planned transaction using your card.
