In Simferopol, police seized 100 rounds of ammunition from a local resident
As part of operational-search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Simferopol, at the place of residence of a 46-year-old resident of the Crimean capital, seized 100 cartridges for firearms.
According to the ballistic examination, the seized ammunition is 5.6 mm rimfire sporting and hunting cartridges. These cartridges are intended for use in rifled firearms and are fully suitable for firing shots.
During the investigation, the man confessed, explaining that he had no intention of using these cartridges. According to him, the ammunition was purchased more than 20 years ago by his grandfather, who later died. The man intended to hand over the cartridges to the police, but did not have time to do so— reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
The investigation department of police department No. 3 “Central” of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal acquisition, transfer, storage, transportation, forwarding or carrying of firearms, their main parts and ammunition.” The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to five. The suspect is under recognizance not to leave the place and of proper behavior.
Police remind! Illegal possession of ammunition and weapons entails criminal liability. If you find ammunition or weapons in your or your relatives’ possession that have not been registered in accordance with the procedure established by law, you must voluntarily hand them over to the nearest police department. The legislation provides for the exemption from criminal liability of persons who voluntarily surrender illegally stored weapons and ammunition.
