In Yevpatoria, an attempt to help turned into a theft
In Yevpatoria, police officers uncovered a theft of funds committed using a bank card.
It has been previously established that at the bus station, a 68-year-old local resident was approached by a stranger asking for help. He complained about the lack of money for food. A compassionate city dweller, confident that there was very little money on his card, gave it to a stranger.
However, as soon as the attacker realized that there was money in the account, he decided not to limit himself to buying groceries, but continued to pay with the card in different stores in Evpatoria, purchasing everything he liked. As a result, 12 thousand rubles disappeared from the victim’s bank account.
During search activities, police officers identified and detained a suspect — a 40-year-old resident of the Saki district with a previous conviction. The man admitted his guilt— the details of the case were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
A criminal case has been initiated into the theft under Part 3 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for up to six years of imprisonment. The suspect was taken into custody and the investigation continues.
The police urge citizens to be vigilant: never, under any circumstances, give your bank cards, PIN codes and other confidential data to strangers.
