Investigative Committee officers raise the remains of WWII fighters and civilians on the territory of the Bakhchisarai region
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Investigators and forensic investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, together with volunteers of the Sevastopol association of search teams “Dolg” in the Bakhchisarai region continue search work to raise the remains of citizens who died during the Great Patriotic War at the hands of the Nazi invaders.
According to historical data, in February and April 1944, mass executions of residents of the Bakhchisaray region took place in this area for connections with partisans and underground activities, as well as military personnel who were in the city commandant’s office of the city of Bakhchisaray. The bodies of the murdered were thrown into trenches, which are now being opened by search engines together with employees of the Russian Investigative Committee.
In order to explore a large area, the Investigative Committee officers used forensic techniques: with the help of ground penetrating radar, large areas were examined and points of possible burial of citizens were discovered. As a result of opening the soil, the remains of several Red Army soldiers and civilians, their personal belongings, and cartridges of various calibers were discovered.
Investigators, together with search engines, carefully removed all the remains and sent them for forensic medical examinations in order to establish the exact causes and period of death.
The Main Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol has its own search team, “Patriots of Victory,” which actively assists the search associations of the peninsula in exploring the territories where fierce battles with the Nazi invaders took place during the Great Patriotic War, in raising the remains and perpetuating the memory of fallen Red Army soldiers, and holding joint patriotic and commemorative events.
The common goal of officers, search engines and all concerned Crimeans is to honorably see off heroic soldiers on their last journey, since until the last soldier is buried, the war is not considered over.
