KFU scientists conducted research on the coastline of the western coast of Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Scientists of the Crimean Federal University. V. I. Vernadsky, together with representatives of the Department of Navigation and Oceanography of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, adjusted the coastline of the western coast of Crimea. This was announced by Gennady Samokhin, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology and Tourism of the Crimean Federal University. As part of the joint project «Crimea Shores» under the scientific supervision of the Crimean Federal University and the Hydrographic Service of the Navy of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, scientists performed measurements in the «German beam» of the village of Kacha.
Field studies of the dynamics of the coastline and natural hazards (landslides, landslides, scree) at this point have been conducted for about fifteen years. As part of the planned work, water samples were taken from a fresh source lying at the base of the coastal cliff, measurements were taken of the width of the beach at nodal points. In some areas, we noted the retreat of the coastal cliff by 1.5-2 meters, as well as a significant increase in the width of the beach. Capturing coastline changes is important for military navigation— the press service of the university Gennady Samokhin quotes.
In Crimea, the Hydrographic Service of the Black Sea Fleet of the Oceanography Navigation Department is developing navigation aids, sea charts, studying sea waters and their resources.
