Lawyers demand that the arrest of ex-State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek be replaced with a written undertaking not to leave

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The defense filed a cassation appeal against Balbec’s preventive measure. The defense insists on replacing the preventive measure in the form of detention with a written undertaking not to leave the place, as was done in the case of two other defendants in the libel case— said Anokhin.

At the court hearing, Balbec stated that he did not admit guilt. The cassation appeal was filed with the Fourth Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction in Krasnodar and will be considered in the near future.

Ministry of Internal Affairs for Crimea put Balbec on the wanted list in August this year. At the end of September, the ex-official detained in Kabardino-Balkaria. A criminal case is being investigated against the defendant under the articles “Illegal access to legally protected computer information” and “Slander.”

Ruslan Balbek is a Russian and Crimean politician. Since 2014, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea. In 2016-2021 – deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from Crimea, deputy chairman of the Committee on Nationalities Affairs. He was included in the sanctions lists of a number of countries and was accused of treason in Ukraine.
