Magnetic storm in Crimea caused auroras
The magnetic storm was accompanied by northern lights: there were reports of observed northern lights in Crimea and on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory, at latitudes 43-45°wrote Leus.
According to the specialist, now the disturbances in the Earth’s magnetosphere have weakened somewhat and the intensity of the ongoing magnetic storm fluctuates in the range from medium to strong G2-G3. However, scientists do not rule out that a strong magnetic storm will return.
It is expected that the magnetic storm will last at least until the end of today, and the first half of Wednesday will pass with a weakly disturbed geomagnetic field, and only in the afternoon of January 21 will the Earth’s magnetosphere return to the “green zone”,” Leus clarified.
The day before A radiation storm of the penultimate power level erupted in the vicinity of the Earth. According to experts, the phenomenon occurred for the first time in two solar cycles. The solar proton flux was 17.5 units. This corresponds to level S4. Level S5 exists only theoretically, and has never been reached in the modern history of observations. The historical storm record was recorded in the last century. Then the values reached about 40 thousand units.
