Matkapital may be reoriented towards large families

Support should be directed to families where a third and subsequent children are born, Matvienko said at a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Implementation of State Demographic and Family Policy. In her opinion, the same approach should be used when paying regional maternity capital. Matvienko believes that all additional support measures, both federal and regional, should be aimed at supporting families in which the third, fourth and subsequent children are born.

The maternity capital program has been in effect since 2007. Previously, it was decided to extend it until 2030. Families can receive a cash payment upon the birth of their first child. When a second child appears in the family, the amount increases.

In 2026, maternity capital will be indexed by 6.8%. The payment for the first child will be increased from 690 thousand rubles to 737.2 thousand rubles. The payment for the second child, if the family did not receive a subsidy for the first-born, will be 974.1 thousand rubles.
