More than 400 patients were operated on in the updated urology department of Sevastopol City Hospital No. 1
The renovation was complex and challenging due to the age and structure of the building. The builders completely replaced all engineering systems: sewerage, water supply, heating, installed modern medical gas and ventilation systems with laminar flows in operating rooms, which is critical for preventing infections. The department now has automatic doors, a new security system, video surveillance and an accessible environment for patients with limited mobility.
Enormous changes have occurred. We got the opportunity to work in a renovated building and use high-tech equipment. This allows operations to be performed at a fundamentally new level, including minimally invasive ones, without large incisions, and modern procedures such as stone crushing. Now we have these capabilities at a much higher level— shared the head of the urology department Pavel Kaminsky.
After surgery, patients can stay in modern wards equipped to the latest standards. They have modules with oxygen supply, as well as individual bathrooms and showers, which is very important for comfort. The conditions are completely different now.
The department can now accommodate up to 60 patients at a time, including six intensive care beds. This will significantly increase throughput. A lot of patients pass through the department — on average about 200 people per month. Not all of them are operated on, but most undergo surgical treatment. According to doctors, in the first two and a half months of work in the new conditions, about 400 people have already received assistance, including both conservative and surgical treatment.
The nearest plans include further retrofitting with modern equipment, such as video endoscopic stands and laser devices.
This is part of the national project “Long and Active Life”.
