The Government Commission for the Control of Foreign Investments in the Russian Federation allowed non-residents of the Russian Federation to register real estate acquired under a gratuitous transaction between spouses or close relatives, the list of which is determined by the Family Code of the Russian Federation. Based on the analysis of incoming applications, the government commission makes additional decisions, which specifies the procedure for carrying out certain real estate transactions.
According to the Family Code of the Russian Federation, close relatives are considered to be parents and children, grandfathers, grandmothers, grandchildren, as well as full and half brothers and sisters. Between them, as well as between spouses, it is allowed to donate real estate objects without obtaining additional permission, even if one of the parties to the transaction is a resident of an unfriendly state.
